Truth or Consequences is for the Artists
New Mexico is known for its charming, artistic towns. So I use my traveling opportunities to check out local art exhibitions and stores. Experiencing everything in real life has been so much better for me. Photos online don’t do anything in NM justice. I’m proud of myself for getting out to make memories in “The Land of Enchantment.”
I was introduced to Truth or Consequences last weekend. A very tiny resort town, an ideal getaway for anyone who needs to unwind. I think the hot springs are supposed to be healing? At least that’s what I’ve heard. It was still very quiet and empty, since most of the places still weren’t open when my parents and I arrived. The calmness is what we prefer, so it was just fine.
First, we went to a gift shop with illustrations by Lorie the Nomad! Who greeted us warmly as we walked in. Her art style was like nothing I had ever seen before. Lorie’s pieces were all made from wood! Her use of vibrant color palettes and expressive lines caught my attention. I found myself a Truth or Consequences mural guide and Artist Directory booklet while looking around. Then before we left, she offered each of us additional goodies! Which included 2 mini prints! I adore how these look as a pair.
ZIA Art Gallery was our next stop. It featured works by several local artists in the area. Everything they chose to put on display was magnificent. I could tell these creators spent a lot of time on each project. There were model planes hanging from the ceiling, little baskets, the paintings (of course!), and more!
After that, I was ready to go to Hot Springs Frame and Art Supply. The store was filled with a variety of items to choose from. Paintings and drawings from even more artists covered the walls. My motivation was being fueled by the second. Ideas were flowing in my head as I browsed. To put it briefly, I was excited.
My finds this time included:

I’m trying to only get supplies I know that I absolutely need. I don’t want any clutter in my room.
Lately, I’ve also been searching for any free art pamphlet! And there were stacks of different ones by the store’s entrance. I chose The Ink arts publication newspaper. Art events happening all over the state get promoted by The Ink. It’s good to stay updated on what’s going on!
What I took away from the day trip is the importance in sharing your work. Community support is the anchor of anyone’s art journey. These artists were very brave for putting themselves out there. I hope one day I’ll be able to gain some of that courage.
I should probably put together a collection of my own art in my camera roll. It would be a starting point. Just in case anyone I meet ever wants to see what I’ve done. At least then I’d have an interesting conversation starter.
