Thoughts on Artfight
My first year on Artfight didn’t go as planned. I should have joined the site sooner, beginner’s mistake. I signed up the week before it began. Hastily setting everything up was kinda stressful. I knew my character designs were extremely rushed, and my profile is still a work in progress. Oh well, I can always improve next year!
I do like the idea of a month long event centered around OC art. Since there are many characters out there who don’t receive attention. It’s lovely to see artists come together to give gift art.
Between the 3 teams, I chose Team Comedy. It was a big anniversary event so there was an extra team added in. Usually, users can only select 1 of 2 teams. This approach was unique, I hope they’ll do it again in the future. From what I can remember, Team Comedy had the highest score. I hope we take the win! On my part, I only “attacked” a couple other artists. I wanted to do more, but..
Real life obligations kept me from focusing on drawing for nearly the entire month. I prioritized self care instead. Which was what I’ve been needing for my mental health. Last night I managed to doodle for the first time in a while. It was relieving that my nerves had finally settled enough to where I could pick up my Apple pencil.
With all that said, I would recommend Artfight to anyone who wants to share their own characters, and maybe put yourself out there in the online art community. My 2026 artist goal is to take more opportunities as they that present themselves. In real life or through online spaces. I’m not doing it for popularity either.
Challenging myself in practicing cartoon styles was different than what I normally do. After months of feeling uninspired in my work progress, I was eager to try something new. I’m proud of myself for giving Artfight a chance. I had been hearing about it for so long and never considered joining. I thought I couldn’t until I was fully skilled at character design or something. So it was a big step for me to finally do it.
