Enough AI Scrapping!
For those of you who don’t know what Cara app is, it is a platform for artists to share their work. The creator, Jingna Zhang developed this site to make sure people’s art wasn’t being fed to AI somewhere secretly.
I can’t believe this happened before I even started posting yet. I will be keeping my account up to show support for all that she’s done for the art community. I’m planning to use it as more of a professional portfolio. Since Twitter, Instagram, Tiktok, even Bluesky aren’t to be trusted anymore!
Of course the person who took everyone’s art into AI is a Reddit user. Everything I hear about Reddit frustrates me more by the month. I would never be comfortable publicly sharing anything over there. I know those terrible, selfish AI defenders must lurk on the art forums often.
My heart hurts for artists who have spent years trying to build communities while working to improve on their skills. And for those who are new to posting online. Generative AI users target anyone who doesn’t want art fed to that system on purpose. Is nowhere safe from AI theft anymore? Why did it have to get this bad?
Truthfully, I was conflicted on even raising awareness about this here on Bear. I have seen entires with so many different opinions on generative AI. I’m actually scared to do this. Though, it is more important than ever to support artists online or near you locally! I can’t express this enough, but PLEASE do what you can show an artist how much you love their pieces when you see their gallery. Creatives share what they do because they want to be appreciated! Which is entirely fine!
I know someday this AI bubble will pop, it has to. This entire situation is unforgivable. I hope that my time using Cara will bring me memories I’ll look back on fondly. I’ve been saying I want to get more involved with art communities. I think if any site for artists deserves my attention, it’s this one. People have expressed how happy they are with it. They joined one day and never looked back. The format of it is very clean. There is so much inspirational artwork to admire. So many kind fellow artists to meet. There’s no way I could give up on Cara.
